CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE : Review-ED

My first impression about the movie is that it would just be another "Ride Along" movie featuring the same actor, Kevin Hart. I was proven wrong. The pairing with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson formed a likeable partnership that ignites burst of laughters amongst the audience.

Before......
.....After
Bob Stone had a rough chubby teenage days when he suffered being bullied while Calvin Joyner was the school's superstar and touted to potentially succeed in life. 20 years later, their fate reversed but somehow they lost their ways. Both were reunited through Facebook and together they uncover a case of espionage while rediscovering what they have been missing...in life.

This hilarious movie with important messages about self reflection deserves 4.7 out of 5 rating from me.
p.s: Do wait for the end credit spoof scenes from the movie, very funny

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES : OUT OF SHADOWS : Review-ED

Being an 80's baby myself, TMNT are among those cartoons who actually made me come back home at 5:30 just so I can sit in front of the TV and enjoy half an hour of them mutated reptile kicking Shredder's ass.

Since the success of the TV series, many have ventured into bringing this popular characters into the silver screen, which they initially did in 1990, followed by few sequels after that.

With the emergence of technology, in 2007 they came back in CGI form which I totally forgot existed.

Then in 2014, something unforeseen happened, Micheal Bay made his version of TMNT. Excited....probably, but he incorporated too much element of "Transformers" into this movie that even Shredder could easily be mistaken as Megatron.

Turtles in a half-pants?

This year, a sequel from the same director came out. I had no high hopes over it, though I still forced myself to the cinema to watch my favourite turtles in action.

The two familiar henchmen: Bebop and Rocksteady

The Turtle Van...erk Garbage Truck...that shoots sewer covers
Here's what I have to say:

  • Bay toned down on Shredder's accessories, which I like...he now looks more human than the previous version.
  • Classic storyline of still learning to be in their roles as brothers/team (what do you expect? they're teenagers...a super buffed teenagers)
  • Too many "aliens coming down from a portal" movies already.
  • Cheesy attempt to lure chicks to dig TMNT by having Stephen Amell coming in as Caser Jones... but I guess it worked.
Casey Jones or Friday the 13th?

Overall, I thought the movie was OK, worth watching with kids...tons of messages can be conveyed to the young ones about values like friendship, trust, honesty, teamwork and most importantly the importance of a family :) I rate this movie a 3.5 out of possible 5⭐️.

p.s:To be honest, Mikey (Michaelangelo) was the reason I love Pizzas. Back then, there was only Pizza Hut in Malaysia, now...they're everywhere :)

Again, here is the trailer :

WARCRAFT : THE BEGINNING : Review-ED

I am always sceptical when one of my favourite game during my younger days translated into a movie adaptation. But this movie surpassed my initial expectations.
I would never imagine this real-time strategy game by Blizzard Entertainment would someday hit the cinema as clearly the objectives in the game were different. However they also came out with series of novel adaptations which I have never read any. Perhaps that is where they got the idea for the storyline. For me Warcraft was an excuse to sit behind my computer, starting a battle against me fellow college friends up all night until the next morning comes.

So how was the movie? I think it was great! It has all the elements that I want to see in that genre. Well I love LOTR, I love those mystical medieval settings, I love magic, weird creatures; Elves and Orcs fascinates me... Since this movie is very much the first of many more to come from its franchise, we haven't been served with super epic battles yet. But I must say it created many questions that would want us to see more and more after this.

When they put names into characters in the movie, I can never relate them to the classic Warcraft game that I played before. Plus their names are bit hard for me to remember first hand.

Anduin Lothar

Looking to escape from his dying world, the orc shaman Gul'dan utilizes dark magic to open a portal to the human realm of Azeroth. Supported by the fierce fighter Blackhand, Gul'dan organizes the orc clans into a conquering army called the Horde. Uniting to protect Azeroth from these hulking invaders are King Llane, the mighty warrior Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel) and the powerful wizard Medivh. As the two races collide, leaders from each side start to question if war is the only answer

Durotan of Frostwolf Clan

All and all I rate this movie a 4.25 ⭐️ out of the possible 5. CGI was awesome, so I do recommend watching it in 3D.

Here'e the trailer.... gotta say it was a bit misleading :)

ME BEFORE YOU : Review-ED

When Khaleesi from Games of Thrones meets Finnick Odair of Hunger Games, comes this witty romantic love story that teaches us the true meaning of life.

This movie is an adaptation of a best-selling novel by Jojo Moyes.

Louissa Clark (Emilia Clarke) is a small town girl who was hired to take care of William Traynor (Sam Claflin) who suffered a paralysing spinal injury in a motorcycle accident. Their relationship started off rocky, but developed into a friendship and ultimately love. Together they teach each other lessons one will treasure for the rest of their lives.

How it all began
I love this scene: Bumblebee Tights :)
Heartbreaking conversation
They have some good punchline in the movie.

My favourite quote from this movie are:
You can't change who people are... You love them.
You are pretty much the only thing that makes me want to wake up in the morning.
I rate this heart warming tear jerking movie a 4⭐️ out of the possible 5.

MONEY MONSTER: Review-ED

When a disgruntled investor Kyle Budwell (Jack O'Connell) lost everything he invested after taking advice from a stock market tv show host Lee Gates (George Clooney), he decided to hold him and the whole studio hostage and get some answers. With the help of the tv show producer Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts), they try to sort things out and together they unravel the sickening truth behind the scandal.
An intense movie from the very beginning till the end, directed by well known actress Jodie Foster deserves a 4.8  out of the possible 5 from me.

Kyle Wants some answers....Lee is going to help him get it
Patty Fen pulling all the strings in the Money Monster show

THE NICE GUYS : Review-ED

So what happens if you pair the ever hunky Russell Crowe and the handsome Ryan Gosling in a movie staged in the 70s? You'll get one crazy hilarious movie!!! Full of laughters and at the same time you'll cringed over the bloody scenes revolving around the two private investigators trying to solve a case involving a porn movie production. Good to see the ever so beautiful Kim Basinger making an appearance. She hasn't aged since the last time I saw her in Batman (1989).

Not suitable for all age due to adult content :)

This hilarious movie deserves 4.5/5 ⭐️ from me.

Here is the trailer for this movie.

X-MEN : APOCALYPSE post-credit explained

Many of us are less than impressed with the post-credit for X-Men : Apocalypse. Not only it took a while for us to pass by those lengthy name...but the post-credit was too simple and didn't excites us....that is the case if you don't know what is that insignia on the briefcase was all about....ESSEX CORP!!

Essex what? Here's where the expertise comes in: the name refers to one Nathaniel Essex, or Mister Sinister, one of the most formidable villains of the X-Men universe. In the comics, Essex is the one responsible for awakening Apocalypse; a geneticist, he believes the mutant had the potential to unlock the secret of perfecting the evolution of the human race, and is granted agelessness from Apocalypse himself. He was also responsible of transforming Angel to Archangel (in the comic)....

He is known to have telekinesis abilities, as well as the powers of shape-shifting and regeneration; essentially making him an ultimate combination of major X-Men characters, and a perfect foe for any upcoming X-Men movies. He has an obsession of creating the perfect mutant being would also tie back into the suitcase filled with serums, though it's hard to tell exactly which upcoming X-Men film Sinister would feature in.

Here are some of the possibilities:
  1. X-23 in Wolverine 3 (she is the female clone of Wolverine)
  2. Gambit, (worked for Essex before joining X-Men)
  3. Cable, the son of Scoot Summers (Cyclops) and a cloned Jean Grey (by Sinister) was also prepped to appear in Deadpool 2 (as indicated in the post-credit of Deadpool) and perhaps have his own spin-off.

All these signs given by Marvel indicates that Mister Sinister will play an important role presumably in the X-Men Universe.
